IT WAS so close but Bellinger Valley pulled off a last-gasp 68-66 win over Lismore Storm in men's Waratah State League.

The Braves finally hit their straps at Sportz Central and many spectators voted it the best game this season as the lead changed constantly.

Young referees Emma Howarth and Maddison Devine combined well to control a fast, ferocious contest that might have deteriorated when tempers came close to boiling over but for their cool and efficient professionalism.

At the end of the two-point victory, coach Denise Challinor was full of praise.

"Every Braves player made significant contributions, especially the bench players in the final quarter," she said.

In juniors, teams played the fourth and final set of central venue games before they travel to Tamworth in coming weeks for the Northern NSW Junior Basketball League grand final series.

Under-16 girls will head across the hills boasting a clean sweep of 12 wins.

The closest they came to defeat was at the last start when fully extended by hosts Coffs Harbour Suns before managing a close win. …
