THERE are times when nothing beats the sound of silence.

That's a feeling Mackay Meteorettes coach Mick Virgo experienced Saturday, when his team came from a point down in the third quarter to beat Rockhampton 89-77.

"I've never heard the Rockhampton crowd so quiet," Virgo said.

"Rocky kept getting little runs of eight to 10 points in front. But the girls didn't let it get to them.

"They silenced the crowd by getting the lead."

The match was tight the full way through, but Virgo said it was a complete team performance that saw The Meteorettes edge out their arch rivals.

In the last quarter they sank 30 points.

"We don't shoot a lot of threes, I think we only got one that went down," he said.

"Everyone was doing their jobs, it was just a great team performance. …
