TOOWOOMBA man Tom Stewart thinks White Lightning is the perfect name for his car.

The 22-year-old apprentice mechanic has owned two cars in his short five years on the road and has personalised both of them by giving them nicknames.

He isn't the only one.

A recent RACQ study has revealed that almost half of surveyed drivers aged 16 to 24 admitted to naming their cars, with women most likely to personalise their ride.

The survey also revealed the most popular names young drivers give their car with Kermit topping the list.

RACQ spokeswoman Lauren Ritchie said other popular names included the Betty, Rosie and Dory.
