A TRANS-AMERICAN trip last year has inspired an old Ipswich boy to bring the taste of the US to the Top of Town.

When it opens in a month's time, the Dusty's Bar and BBQ will complement an already rapidly changing Ipswich precinct, adding a distinctly American flavour.

Owner Mark "Dusty" Dale has gutted the recently vacated Stumps pub on Brisbane St and is already hard at work converting into a venue that will pay homage to the best things about our friends across the Pacific: beer, food, sport and rock 'n roll.

"I drove across the US with my wife last year and I was particularly impressed with the bars in the south - around Mississippi," Mr Dale said.

"I walked past this place and said to my wife, 'this would make the perfect American bar'.

"You've got the German beer bar going in across the road, the Pumpyard is going fantastically well and there are cafes popping up everywhere.

"I think we really need to push this area as a food and entertainment hub. …
