IN THE build-up to this year's Grafton July Racing Carnival, course manager Drew Cookson told us the track was in good order.

Five race records later on the two biggest days of racing in the year, we know it wasn't pre-event hype.

"The track has raced real well," Cookson said. "Good tracks suit on-pace racing and that's when you see the records go."

Cookson was a touch concerned the fast times might be a sign the track had gone too hard, but checking with the vets allayed his fears.

"The vets told me none of the horses were 'jarring up'," he said.

"Actually not that many records are broken on 'fast' tracks. …
