PAUL McNeil and Craig Rochfort love art and opened the park gates to all their clever friends. Soon after, talented filmmakers, artists and writers started pouring in, attracted by the flowers, trees and grass. These people went on to shape the Art Park, and eventually they all ended up living there. Inspired by the surroundings, art was made, films were played and words were 'sayed'.

STYLEwise caught up with one half of Art Park, Craig Rochfort, a while back and probed his brain for all things contemporary art for the latest in the Mid North Coast Creatives sessions...

STYLEwise: How would you describe what you do?

CR: I am a co-founder at a Byron Bay-based company called Art Park.

Art Park works with artists and makes/sells products around the world.

We also coordinate the Art Park Artist Residencies (we offer two-month fully paid artist residencies in Byron Bay each year)

In addition to this, we operate a commercial gallery in Byron Bay and have around 10 shows per year.

As a co-founder of Art Park, I am involved in product development, artist relations, Artist Residency co-ordination, gallery curating as well as random design tasks relating to all of the above and marketing, etc.

In my spare time I create and exhibit my own contemporary art.

STYLEwise: How did your journey into design begin?

CR: I completed a degree in Industrial Design at the University of Canberra way before the internet was even thought of...

STYLEwise: What do you enjoy designing most and why?

CR: Personally, I enjoy book design. Art Park have published a book with Reg Mombassa and I am enjoying working on that project.
