2010 -- 15 people died in 15 crashes

2011, 2012 and 2013 -- 23 fatalities

2014 -- 12 deaths in 12 crashes

So far in 2015 -- 11 people have died in nine crashes

TRAFFIC fatalities in the Mackay region have already doubled last year's road toll. Sergeant Gerry Doyle from Mackay's Road Policing Unit said this year, there had already been 11 motorists die in nine serious vehicle accidents.

This time last year, only five deaths were recorded, he said.

Despite the increase, Sergeant Doyle said there hadn't been a change in the way police patrol our roads. They have been as vigilant as ever.

"We hammer the public education," he said.

"We hammer the high profile-policing.

"There's a large component relying on that people will do the right thing. There's that human element that we have no direct control over."

But, the annual spike has only levelled out previous results. …
