GLADSTONE stands to get a bucketload of cash from this year's state budget, handed down yesterday.

Curtis Pitt's first budget includes more than $150 million of spending in the region.

Gladstone state member Glenn Butcher is rapt. "Gladstone has been neglected for a long time. I'm stoked with what we've got from our first budget," he said. One of the big ticket items is a $62m investment in the RG Tanna Coal terminal. The upgrade includes $40.4m to upgrade the coal terminal control system plus $17.1m to complete the terminal's conveyor life extension program. "We've gone from trying to sell the port five months ago to injecting a huge amount of funding to ensure the terminal will service Gladstone for many years to come," Mr Butcher said.

And while no specific figures have been released, the upgrade of four hospital accident and emergency departments at a cost of $180m includes a complete overhaul of the A and E department at Gladstone Hospital. …
