MELVYN BRAGG: WIGTON TO WESTMINSTER (Tonight, BBC2, 9.15pm) BAFTA-WINNING producer and director Olivia Lichtenstein charts some of Melvyn Bragg's career highlights, from his early days in radio to Dennis Potter's poignant final interview.

Cameras also follow Lord Bragg back to his hometown of Wigton in Cumbria to learn more about how his early life influenced his writing, but while he may be in reflective mood, the 75-year-old reveals he has no intentions of slowing down.

CAKE BAKERS AND TROUBLE MAKERS: LUCY WORSLEY'S 100 YEARS OF THE WI (Monday, BBC2, regions vary) THIS year marks the 100th anniversary of the first Women's Institute meeting, which was held in a garden shed on the Welsh island of Anglesey. As historian Lucy Worsley points out, the WI has surprisingly radical roots that can still be seen in its modern-day incarnation. The historian discovers that many of the institute's founding members were suffragettes, and it has campaigned for everything from better housing in 1918 to equal pay in 1943.

VIRGIN ATLANTIC: UP IN THE AIR (Tuesday, ITV, 9pm) MANY bosses of massive companies remain faceless to the people who buy their products or use their services, but not Richard Branson. He's instantly familiar to pretty much everybody.
