CRICKET: The Gold Coast put on a perfect winter's day at Robina for the return clash between QCC and the Warwick over 40s teams.

Warwick won the toss and elected to bat first on a well-prepared pitch and lush but slow outfield.

Warwick was without regular captain Dave Gavin, due to illness, and top-order batsman Dayl March, due to trotting commitments in Brisbane.

With Warwick reduced to nine players, it was agreed to let Mick Bourke's son, Mitch, play so Warwick had 10 players.

Warwick openers Darren Byrne and Jeff Morris faced tight opening bowling and a sluggish outfield and early on Warwick was 3/52 at drinks.

After drinks, Scott McLennan (27) and John Creed (30) put on 54 runs for the fourth wicket to lead a charge for more runs and were both dismissed caught on the fence.

Keeper/batsman Tony Burke (27) and Gav Scheiwe (30 not out) then put on another 53 runs for the sixth wicket.

Warwick battled to a score of 6/146 after 45 overs (game shortened due to daylight available). …
