A PROPOSED water park for Proserpine is going ahead.

The 2015--16 Whitsunday Regional Council budget, released on Tuesday last week, shows $600,000 allocated for the park's construction.

Former Proserpine resident Bridget Middleton has been behind the idea and campaigned for it from the start.

Ms Middleton said she was overjoyed to see the dream becoming a reality.

"We didn't think it was going to happen, so I'm actually so pleasantly surprised," she said.

Despite her desire to see the park built, Ms Middleton said there were reasons she hadn't thought it would eventuate.

"Because we're sort of stuck in the middle between Bowen and Airlie Beach, we don't generally get too many funds thrown our way," she said.

"I'm really proud of council for acknowledging that something like this should be done without needing to be harassed about it.

"It will really add to the attractiveness of the town as somewhere that people will want to live and stay. …
