Long-term average July minimum: 6.6 degrees.

Hottest July day on record (before Sunday): 28.8 degrees on July 1, 1981.

Hottest day so far this year: 38 degrees, January 18.

Long-term average July maximum: 21.8 degrees.

Wettest July on record in Gympie: 266mm in 1973.

BACKYARD pools got a mid-winter workout on Sunday as the Gympie region sweltered through its hottest July day on record.

The mercury headed north to 29 degrees and the afternoon felt more like a brooding summer's day in the middle of the storm season.
