Longtime area track and field coach James Day added another honor to a career full of them.

Day was inducted into the National High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in Rochester, Minn.

Day was one of the founding members of the Bob Hayes Invitational Track and Field meet and has worked in some capacity with high school athletes since 1956. Day started as an intern that year under Earl Kitchings and stayed involved ever since.

His biggest project, the annual Bob Hayes meet, remains one of the most prominent high school events on the calendar every year.

"The development of the Bob Hayes track meet, no way I could do it by myself. It takes thousands of [volunteers], city, state, nation. We have people from everywhere," Day said. "You don't get paid for this. You do it because you enjoy what you do, and I enjoy running the Bob Hayes track meet."


Ribault won the inaugural Adidas 7v7 Southeast Football Championship on July 18 in Valdosta, Ga.

Ribault, one of four teams from Florida in the three-state, 12-team field, knocked off Lovejoy, Ga., 18-7 in the championship game. Michael McCray and Bobby Robinson had touchdown catches for the Trojans, and Charles Williams and Sidney Wilson had interceptions.

It marks the fourth tournament that Ribault has won this summer.


Bishop Kenny football star Charles Wade's 80-yard touchdown catch in last year's playoffs against Tallahassee Godby earned a national honor Monday.

Wade's catch on a pass from Jackson Bradley was recognized by the National Federation of High Schools as the highlight of the year. Wade, an All-State, All-First Coast and Super 24 selection, signed with Wake Forest.


Episcopal outfielder Keenan Bell will play in the Under Armour All-America Game next month at Wrigley Field. The UA game is one of the most prestigious high school baseball all-star games in the country. …
