Port Access Road Funding Now a $48.2M Question

GLADSTONE: Attracting new business to the Port of Gladstone could be difficult without funding secured to finish the access road.

There's no sign of the $48.2million that was promised to the city last year to be spent before 2018.

But the federal ministers Warren Truss and Scott Emerson did manage to find an extra $46.17million for another project in western Queensland.

A spokesperson for the Minister for Infrastructure and Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss did not deny the funds had been taken from the Gladstone Port access road allocation.

They said the money had been sourced from "contingencies" within the infrastructure portfolio.

But letters between Mr Truss and Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson detail how the funding for the port access road was redirected to the Peak Downs Hwy because that safety works project ran out of money.

Federal MP Ken O'Dowd has stated the money is still available. …
