VICTOR Guse has seen many interesting things on Coast waters, but nothing comes close to his tale of the albatross and the whale.

The passionate fisherman and boatie said he was out on the water once a week and other boaties were usually safe and did the right thing.

But the same could not be said for the wildlife.

Mr Guse was out on one of his many trips into Mooloolaba waters in 2009 when he and friend Brent Pumpa came across an albatross 50m ahead on their way out towards "the Blinker".

The ocean was dead flat, so he could easily change course to allow the large seabird plenty of space.

"Once we were about 50m away, the albatross started to run across the surface as he slowly took off towards us," Mr Guse said.

"I altered course again as he cut me off with his cross bow takeoff path. He then began to fly straight ahead of me.

"With his large wings outspread he slowly picked up speed but wouldn't change his path.

"My mate and I began to laugh as we watched him look back over his shoulder, first on one side, then the other, a number of times. …
