IT IS always hard to say goodbye to a piece of your history.

That is what Toowoomba basketball is doing as the iconic Water St Basketball Stadium is demolished to make way for a car park for City Golf Club.

The Toowoomba Basketball Association has not played at Water St for more than four years as games have been taken to facilities at USQ and St Mary's College.

Water St has always been the spiritual home of basketball in the city though so to have the facility pulled down is tough to see.

Play stopped at Water St as a significant amount of money would have been needed for work to be done to keep it at a standard required to host matches in the future.

That is an issue you see the world over.

The Adelaide Oval has just had a refurbishment with the ground modernised.

Officials were able to keep the iconic manual scoreboard and grass hill, but the rest of the ground has changed. …
