Toll Rises with Truce Trashed; Turkey Kills Scores of Kurdish Fighters in Two-Pronged 'War on Terror'

KURDISH militants have been blamed for the death of five people in attacks on Turkish security forces, following the death of scores of their fellow fighters.

The Hurriyet Daily has reported that Turkish intelligence sources estimate as many as 190 Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) fighters have been killed and 300 wounded in attacks by Turkey in the south-east of the country and northern Iraq over the past week.

Following the death of the three Turkish troops in the south-eastern province of Sirnak on Thursday, 30 Turkish war planes launched a new wave of bombings on PKK targets in northern Iraq, CNN reported.

Ankara has defended its attacks on the PKK -- which has been prominent in the battle against Islamic State fighters -- saying it is fighting a two-pronged "war on terror" against Islamic State in Syria and the PKK in northern Iraq.

The strikes against the PKK have hit camps and weapons stores in the remote mountains of northern Iraq, including its headquarters. …
