WITH a number of recent house fires in the local area, the importance of learning fire safety early on in life has been highlighted.

Prep and Year 1 students were lucky enough to have a visit from the Noosa Fire Brigade, and that was even more special for Prep student Luke Lewis.

Luke's dad, John Lewis, a fire officer with the Noosa Fire Brigade, brought along the local truck and a few mates to teach the Prep students about fire safety.

Of course after the serious talk was over, everyone was keen to have a turn on the giant fire hose.

"My dad puts out fires with his firefighter friends," Luke said.

"They came to my school and we all had a go at trying to get the target with the fire hose. My teacher had a go and he was the best."

Year 1 teacher Suzy Gers said it was a great learning experience for the children and a fantastic reminder.

"We all need to have working smoke alarms and an evacuation plan in place to keep our families safe," she said. …
