Workers Upset Minor Premiers

LISMORE Workers inflicted a stunning upset on reigning premiers Bangalow, winning 5-1 in Far North Coast women's premier division soccer.

The talented Bangalow side have already locked up the minor premiership and when they opened the scoring early through the lethal Jade Bianchetti most expected them to go on with the job.

But Workers hit back through an Elsa Mangan penalty, then two goals from young star Keea Parrish saw the sides go to half time with Workers leading 3-1.

After the break Bangalow tried hard but it wasn't to be as Workers added to the score sheet through Serena Mangan before a late Bangalow own goal.

Bangalow Coach Paul Hannigan took time to praise the Workers side while nominating young gun Mia Johnston as his best on a disappointing night for the premiers.

Workers coach Jo Collis couldn't nominate any one player in a great team performance.

"We executed some of the things we have been working on so I am very pleased," Collis said. …
