Bypass Deal on Track for Final Contract; Minister Says Agreement Close

A CONTRACT between the Queensland Government and Toowoomba Second Range Crossing preferred tenderer Nexus is imminent.

Speaking at the Transport and Logistics Symposium yesterday, Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said a contract would be signed "in coming weeks".

He said the Nexus consortium was working closely with the government to finalise the contract.

Mr Bailey said Nexus would soon begin extensive consultation and engagement with the community and affected landholders in Toowoomba.

"They will also establish a project office and permanent display to allow interested parties and the community to ask about the project and any employment opportunities," he said.

The $1.6 billion bypass will be a toll road.

Mr Bailey said the government expected tolling arrangements to be finalised close to the road's official opening, late in 2018.

He also spoke about the proposed Melbourne-to-Brisbane Inland Rail project, a hot topic at the symposium. …
