Valley Cattle Prices Break Records; Industry Does Major Turnaround after Becoming Almost Unviable Last Winter

ONLY 12 months ago the Clarence Valley cattle industry was staring down the barrel at the worst winter sales in recent years.

But now, it could not be better with record breaking sales, including angus weaner steers selling at more than $3.50/kg last week.

Farrell McCrohon Stock and Station Agents principal David Farrell said there was a good feeling among cattle breeders and stockists.

"The cattle market in the Clarence Valley is looking about as good as I have ever seen it looking," Mr Farrell said.

"It is fantastic news for everyone involved."

After what was a dismal winter season last year many in the industry were fearful of what the colder months would bring in 2015.

But Mr Farrell believes it has been a massive turnaround, something he has never seen before.

"This time last year we were at the other end of the spectrum in terms of cattle sales," he said. …
