Mining Giant Contracts Set in Stone

MRC Australia, formerly known as Mackay Radiators and Coolers, is reaping the rewards of a new strategy.

Two-year contracts have been secured with two of Australia's largest mining companies.

These contracts are to repair and supply cooling components on mining sites in Queensland and down to the Hunter Valley in New South Wales.

Managing director Scott Thorburn said the project had been the most significant to date; however, it was in the pipeline for quite some time.

He said the Paget team scored the opportunity by packaging services to one of the unnamed mining giants.

"We have a good track record with them," he said. "Before this came about, we needed some runs on the board."

"We did a couple of years of groundwork for one of the companies, and then we brought it ahead.

"We just saw an opportunity to go to a higher level with the organisation."

And, it is now an opportunity well appreciated.

Mr Thorburn said since the downturn, many doors had opened for MRC Australia.

"We've used it as an opportunity to get through a lot of doors that weren't previously open," he said. "During these times, a lot of companies are looking to save.
