Trainer Not Too Bubbly about Champagne Rock's Cup Chances

COFFS Harbour trainer Jim Jarvis is cautious when assessing the chances of last year's placegetter Champagne Rock in the $25,000 Richmond River Express Examiner Casino Cup (1400m) today.

The seven-year-old gelding has had two runs back from a 311-day spell.

His form hasn't been exciting to say the least but according to Jarvis, Champagne Rock is getting close to the mark.

"Ideally it would have been nice to have another run or even a trial but it's not a perfect world," Jarvis said. "Champagne Rock has just taken that bit longer to come to hand given the long spell and he's older.

"Realistically speaking he's probably 90 per cent plus right.

"He's got plenty of mileage into his legs, done a lot of work but without the luxury of grass track gallops because of the work being done at Coffs.

"He loves the 1400 metres but I'm just a bit cautious because he's not 100 per cent right.

"We'll just see what happens. …
