Dear Diary,

Can't wait for this weekend Explore....I'm heading up the highway for a great coast drive and some well-earned R&R in Bowen.

Friday - head along the Bruce to Bowen past the Big Mango, and book a room with a sea view. Depending on how I feel, I might have Vietnamese, Chinese or Thai, or maybe Indian, or I might just try a bite from one of the local pubs. I've heard the food is amazing....and all local so it will be really fresh as...

Saturday - Think I'm going to try some stand-up paddle boarding. Apparently, you can try it for free on your first go from 8.30am at Greys Bay. I've seen it on Facebook and I've always wanted to have a go at that...

After that, I thought I might have a look around Horseshoe Bay, it looks like there are plenty of gorgeous beaches. Maybe I'll go for a walk up and along Cape Edgecumbe walking trail across to Rose Bay.

I read that the natural beauty and peacefulness of the area is incredible. But I must remember to take the camera.

I'm looking forward to snorkelling after that, being able to step straight off the beach from Horseshoe Bay. How cool is it that you can snorkel directly from the shore and see the vibrant colours of the reef, marvel at the abundance of tropical fish and maybe even see one of the famed sea turtles that nest locally each year.

I'm going to take a stroll into town after that, past the Muller's Lagoon boating lake and down to the North Queensland Cruising Yacht Club.

Apparently if you get your name down early enough, you may be able to get a ride on the sailing boats on Saturday afternoon.

That would be so incredible, seeing the coast and the Whitsunday Islands dotted around from a real sailing boat, and all free! I might just have to shout the captain a beer or two afterwards.

Then grab some of the delicious locally-caught fresh seafood from the Bowen Harbour and back to the motel or if there's any puff left in me after all that fun it's down to the foreshore to barbecue the fish on a free barbecue then take a walk along the jetty. …
