BLYTH SPARTANS 3 WHITBY TOWN 2 A CROWD of 403 at Croft Park saw Blyth Spartans win a thrilling Evo-Stik League Premier Division game against Whitby Town.

Blyth took the lead with only 12 minutes gone and could easily have gone further ahead before Whitby levelled with a controversial penalty.

Aaron Wearmouth found space on the right and after going past Keiran Weledji forced goalkeeper Shane Bland into making a partial save - and Dan Maguire was on hand to find the net from close range.

Ten minutes later, determination by Matthew Wade allowed him to win the ball from Adam Gell and he released skipper Robbie Dale (pictured below) on the left. He advanced into the box only for Bland to parry his shot away to safety.

A minute later and the scores were level. Dillon Morse, signed from Gateshead, was penalised for a trip on Matthew Waters - although it looked as if he had got a touch on the ball.

Michael Roberts stepped up and sent goalkeeper Adam McHugh the wrong way from the spot. …
