PM Leads Tributes to Seb after Vote Result

PRIME Minister David Cameron led the congratulations after Lord Coe was elected president of the International Association of Athletics Federations.

After bringing the Olympics to London, the 58-year-old now faces the challenge of leading athletics through one of the most crucial times in its history.

Coe was elected as the world governing body's new president in Beijing, edging out pole vault great Sergey Bubka in the vote at the IAAF Congress.

A long, difficult road awaits but the double Olympic gold medallist over 1,500 metres has been backed to succeed in the role by a number of individuals and organisations, including Cameron. The Prime Minister said: "Delighted @sebcoe has been elected president of the IAAF,.

"An outstanding athlete who delivered the brilliant London 2012 Olympics."

Those sentiments were echoed by Minister for Sports past and present, with current incumbent Tracey Crouch saying he will "strengthen the IAAF and athletics across the world". …
