Frank and Honest Team Meeting Paid off, Says O'Shea

JOHN O'Shea believes Sunderland's no-holds-barred team meeting paid dividends as the Black Cats stopped the rot against Swansea City.

Black Cats boss Dick Advocaat gathered his players together last weekend in the wake of dire defeats against Leicester City and Norwich City.

And Sunderland responded with a much-improved performance against the Swans, which proved enough to earn them their first point of the season.

"You have to talk about these things, if they were going great, we wouldn't be talking," said experience former Manchester United defender O'Shea.

"You have to see where you can improve stuff and that's always the case. That's football.

"Believe it or not, we did it a couple of times at Man United as well.

"Things have to be spoken about. It's no good letting things fester. Get them out in the open and move on."

O'Shea was left out for the first two games, with Advocaat opting for a central defensive partnership of summer signings Younes Kaboul and Sebastian Coates. …
