THEY'VE waited almost a year for this moment to arrive.

The memory of last year's grand final defeat has driven the Cap Coast Marlins all season with this year's squad determined not to let the opportunity slip.

"As a team we have mentioned it a couple of times and are determined to go that one step further," Marlins shooter Karen Petherick said.

"We are definitely motivated to go all the way."

The Marlins will prepare to end their run of grand final defeats when they take on RGS Magic in tonight's semi-final at The Cathedral College.

Petherick said it was important to go into the do-or-die clash with the right attitude if the Marlins were to claim the win.

"We definitely will be stepping up. These are the ones we want to win," she said.

"We have to make sure we play our game and not get caught up in their style of play."

Petherick, who joined the Marlins for the first time this season, said the Cap Coast defenders, including Claws product Diane Tummon and Sarah Walsh, were crucial to which team came out on top. …
