WHEN you look at the view Lindisfarne Festival-goers will be treated to this weekend, you have to wonder why no-one had thought of setting a music festival there before.

On Friday and Saturday, around 2,000 people will set up camp on the last field before you get to the Holy Island causeway and will be spoiled for choice when it comes to the on-stage offer.

Boasting a line-up which blends big names with a strong local offering - think Public Service Broadcasting, Reverend and the Makers and Craig Charles alongside Nadine Shah, The Lake Poets and Frankie and the Heartstrings - all the official entertainment will be taking place inside three 500-capacity tents and a sure-to-be-popular beer marquee.

The festival came about when its founder Conleth Maenpaa, who studied in Newcastle, relocated back to the region last year.

"Obviously Newcastle has got a great music scene, but in terms of festivals, I realised that although there are quite a few, there aren't really any which I would classify as traditional festivals, where you stay on site," he said.

"I also knew that some which had been happening - like Split (in Sunderland) - weren't happening again, so I though 'let's be brave; let's have a go; let's find the perfect location as far as we can and see what we can do.'" ."

Safe to say they've done quite a lot. The action kicks off on Friday with sets from the aforementioned PSB, top North East guitarist Johnny Dickinson and The Baghdaddies as well as DJ turns from Craig Charles and DJ Yoda (you can see the full programme below).

Then on Saturday, the festival really comes into its own, as you'll see from the line up listings. As well as the music, there's also a cracking menu of food stalls, featuring many local producers and a wide range of cuisines including a veggie area, a gourmet burger stand, a curry stall and a Mexican van. …
