SEVEN-YEAR-OLD Oliver Honan, who was fishing next to the stream beside the Dam with his parents, had the fish of the week at Derwent Reservoir - a 4lb 8oz rainbow, which topped off a nice five-fish catch.

Carp angler Mr Eggleton from Greenside took his sons, Liam and Mason, to the reservoir to learn how to fish and they had a great introduction to the sport, buying a second permit after taking a limit by lunchtime.

Bright, breezy conditions put fish deeper earlier in the week at Thrunton, with Diawl Bachs, buzzers and damsels producing good catches.

Brothers George and David Maddison from Bedlington landed 14, while G Evans brought four browns to the net and Brian Conway released seven and kept two from Long Crag, where Mark Cromar from Morpeth returned 14.

Father and son Simon and Elliot Guthrie from Cramlington landed 13, with Elliot having a fight to net a 6lb 11oz rainbow from Long Crag; Nick Holland from Ponteland caught nine to 4lb 11oz; and Vaughan Hemy from Whitley Bay had eight from Long Crag.

Pete Maher from Newcastle returned nine to Coe Crag; John Williams from Morpeth put back eight; Lol Seddon from Stakeford released 12 over both lakes; Joe Brown from Bedlington landed 13 from Long Crag; and Grant Downie from Blagdon released 14 to 6lb on Long Crag.

Paul Cooper had six for 14lb 6oz at Kielder Water - including the heaviest fish of the week at 4lb 8oz, while Rhys Thompson had the week's heaviest bag with eight for 18lb 11oz.

Knitsley Mill will introduce a PS10, two-fish, all-day pensioners' ticket from Tuesday. The next monthly completion is on Saturday, with a 9am start.

There are places available for the charity fishing completion on Friday, September 11, with fishing from around 5.30pm, and the all-night fish that starts at 9pm the following day. …
