Teen Set Fire to House She Didn't like Living In

A TEENAGER set fire to her aunt's house in Forest Hill because she didn't like living there.

The 16-year-old girl - who cannot be named for legal reasons - set two curtains inside the house alight, which caused extensive damage to the property.

She pleaded guilty in Ipswich District Court to one count of arson.

Crown prosecutor Matt Le Grand said no one else had been inside the house when the girl started the fire on January 30, 2014.

The girl alerted some nearby construction workers to the fire, who then reported the blaze to fire crews.

Mr Le Grand said the girl had been living at the house with her aunt.

He said the girl lit the fire because she had become angry with her aunt and didn't like living at the house.

Mr Le Grand said the house, which had not been owned by the aunt, was destroyed as a result of the fire. The girl's aunt was later paid $74,000 in contents insurance. …
