FORT DEL ORO can make her trip across the Irish Sea pay dividends as she lines up in the Betfred Garrowby Stakes at York.

Edward Lynam does not send his runners on their travels without some expectation of success and this threeyear-old has made fine strides in her three racecourse outings to date.

Second on her debut at the Curragh in May, the Lope De Vega filly impressed with a comfortable victory back at that track the following month before enjoying a short break through the height of the summer.

Returned to action in a Group Three heat back at the Curragh last month, Fort Del Oro found the first two home, Mattmu and Toscanini, a shade too good but there was little disgrace in finishing third behind that pair, who have both subsequently run well again since.

Fort Del Oro is clearly on a steep learning curve, but this Listed event can prove a nice stepping stone to further Pattern options in the autumn, particularly as the conditions of the race give her something to work with against higher-rated rivals.

Lady Cecil hands in her licence at the end of the current campaign and Distain should give her the chance of a York winner before bowing out in the Barkers Garage Stakes.

Winner of a Redcar maiden on her second start back in May, the daughter of Champs Elysees was not sighted again until finishing second at Chester in July, when she did not enjoy the best of runs in behind winner Chadic. …
