NEWCASTLE regained their pride and dignity - treasured commodities - in their last two Premier League confrontations against mighty opposition. The degrading surrender of 2015's early months and the away game at Swansea this campaign have thankfully been confined to a distant and unpleasant memory.

United deserved more than a solitary point from a visit to Manchester United and hosting Arsenal, but they were never going to be judged upon results against the likes of them.

No, it's West Ham away and Watford at home - the next two fixtures - when United's true standing will be established. These are the sort of matches which Newcastle ought to win.

They have to be further up the pecking order (as well as the alphabet) than the W's of this world or they are in genuine trouble.

Newcastle are a much, much bigger club than both and need to emphasise that in their final league position.

If they show the spirit, commitment, organisation, and work rate of recent days then they will overcome. If they play as at Swansea then they will most certainly not.
