Suspect in Setting of Fires to Car and House Identified

A 31-year-old suspect has been identified after fires were set Wednesday night to his car and house on Majestic Cypress Drive, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Anthony John Pelletier was charged with arson, attempted second-degree arson and cruelty to animals and remains behind bars on $370,000 bail, according to Duval County jail records.

Police responded to the home following a 5:40 p.m. call from a woman saying that her husband was pouring gas all over the house and car and was saying "he wants to die," according to the arrest report.

Officers arrived to find the house on fire as Pelletier knelt down in a neighbor's driveway. His wife told them her husband had been drinking beer, then both were talking in their garage when he got a gas can, according to the report. When he poured gasoline in his car, she took the can and hid it in their bedroom closet. But he found it and doused the bedroom and dining room with more gas, police said.

The wife said she got scared when he told her to leave because he was going to burn everything to the ground, and fled with their son, according to the report. …
