THERE are many benefits of being older, wiser, smarter, and they outweigh all the narky things.

I think the whopper of all the good stuff that comes with age is that you stop chasing happiness.

Really. It is fact. I've experienced it.

You have that to look forward to if you are a young slip of a thing in your 40s or 50s.

Sadly for those of you still in your 20s and 30s, you have a long way to go.

As you age, happiness shows up at your door in small and intermittent visits so at first you aren't really aware it has come knocking.

If so, you would have invited it in on the first visit, given it a cup of tea and a Tim Tam and encouraged it to stay on for the rest of the day until cocktail time when you would have served it a mango daiquiri and shown it the guest room. But it doesn't work that way.

By the time happiness has fully arrived and ensconced itself inside your home and your head, you have moved on and haven't realised what a welcome guest it is. …
