FRUIT and vegetable growers from across the region can have their produce judged by an expert and help to raise money for the Lismore Base Hospital as part of its annual fete.

The Charity Fruit and Vegetable Auction is a new addition to the fete, giving gardeners a chance to get involved, auxiliary president Di Miller said.

Phil Dudman from ABC Gardening will be on hand to judge the produce before it is raffled off, with all proceeds going to the hospital.

Ms Miller said it was also a way for local schools to get involved with the fete.

"This is another way children can join in, because a lot of schools have market gardens," she said.

Executive director of the Richmond Clarence Health Service Group, Lynne Weir, said the Fete Fundraiser was all about getting the community involved with their local hospital.

The fete is on October 31 so there is still plenty of time to grow some fresh vegetables for the auction. …
