WESTERN Wonders are the new champions of the Middlesbrough Monday Night Charity Pool League's first division.

After a shaky start to the season, the team went from strength-to-strength after captain Joe Hodge drafted the experience of players such as John Raystrick and Ged Crocker and they sealed the championship by just two points. The big game was when Western defeated their closest rivals, Geoff Sankey's Erimus B team, who had topped the division for most of the season. They followed with wins over Newcastle House (7-1), Middlebeck (5-3), Longlands Warriors (7-1) for a record of 18 wins and three draws from their 26 matches played.

The new champions are Joe Hodge, vice captain Jonathan Burton, Ste Boyle, Ian Corns, Ged Crocker, John Raystrick, Paul Drury, Christian Kirkup, Steven Fawcett, Ellis Clayton, Mark Bushby.

The top scorers for the Western were John Raystirck and Ged Crocker with 16 wins from 20 played and Christian Kirkup had really good stats for the team, winning 13 from 15. …
