Dog Trial Win Was 'Special'; Hot Competition the Best Way to Honour Happy Davis Memory

WINNING the inaugural Happy Davis Memorial Maiden dog trial was special for Clarenza working dog trainer Lew Molloy.

The event was added to the Maclean Working Dog Trials, held over the weekend at the Maclean Showground.

The maiden was held to celebrate the life of working dog trainer Ray Davis, who died in a tragic riding accident earlier last month.

Molloy and his collie, Darcy, had to pull out all the stops to win, with Yamba's Brooke Anderson only a point behind.

"I said a few words when I accepted the prize," Molloy said.

"Winning this event will always be very special to me.

"It was a fitting event to remember Happy. I know it was tough for the family.

"But with the turnout and the quality of the dogs we saw here, it was the right way to remember him."

Molloy said the competition right through the weekend was hot, even if the weather was not.

"It rained more as the weekend progressed, but that didn't mean much to us," he said. …
