Grier Gets Nod as Gators' Starter at Kentucky; Freshman Quarterback Started against ECU, but Harris Still in the Mix

GAINESVILLE | Quarterback Will Grier will make his second career start in Florida's Southeastern Conference opener at Kentucky on Saturday.

The school announced the decision to start the redshirt freshman, who earned the nod over sophomore Treon Harris, via social media on Thursday afternoon.

McElwain said on Wednesday that he expects both quarterbacks to play in the game, although he would be less likely to take out the hot hand at this point in the season.

"If a guy's hitting it and distributing it and has a good stroke, then we'll go with it," he said.

However, that doesn't mean either quarterback is on a short leash, he said, and one bad throw won't warrant a quick change.

Through the first two games of the season, both players have split snaps evenly.

Harris started the season opener against New Mexico State, going 14-for-19 for 215 yards and two touchdowns, while Grier went 16-of-18 for 166 yards and two touchdowns in a 61-13 win. …
