Businesses Reminded to Ensure Sites Are Kept Properly Secured

POLICE are reminding Mackay businesses to ensure the premises are secured and no cash is kept on site.

Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) detectives were investigating a spate of break and enter offences that began in Mackay and ended with one man being taken into custody by Ayr police.

Two Mackay businesses were targeted overnight on Thursday.

An investigation into the incident identified a vehicle that was allegedly used to commit the break and enters.

Mackay CIB officer-in-charge Detective Senior Sergeant David Tucker said police believed the three occupants of the vehicle were also responsible for seven alleged break and enters at businesses in Bowen later that night.

The vehicle was located by police in Ayr and one of the three occupants was taken into custody, he added.

Det Snr Sgt Tucker said it was believed the other two offenders may be Mackay locals who were known to police. …
