Article excerpt

A 41-year-old Jacksonville man who broke into a home and tied up two men and a woman and then sexually battered the woman at gunpoint in 2012 was sentenced to five life sentences Thursday, according to the State Attorney's Office.

Alexander Lamar Prince was convicted of armed burglary, sexual battery, three counts of kidnapping with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon in August, according to the State Attorney's Office.

Prince and another man broke into a home in May 2012 armed with guns and demanded money and jewelry from the three victims and forced them to take off their clothes, prosecutors said. With the two male victims tied up, Prince pointed a shotgun at the female and sexually battered her.

The men left in a stolen vehicle but were spotted by officers. Co-defendant James Edward Phillips, also 41, pleaded guilty in March to the same charges other than the sexual battery, according to court records. He is scheduled to be sentenced next week.
