ALLORA State School's Year 10 students last night departed by coach, heading south on the school's annual Canberra excursion.

Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs, with a focus on Australia's history, culture, heritage and democracy.

This year staff members Joanne Frizzell and Brett Hay are accompanying the 11-student Allora contingent, which will be joined by 13 Killarney State School students and a teacher en route.

The coach is due to arrive in Canberra this afternoon, with sightseeing getting under way that day with a visit to the Floriade Markets, and later the Telstra Tower.

Tomorrow the group is heading to the Mount Kosciusko National Park for a day of skiing at the snowfields.

On Monday the students will visit Mount Ainslie, the National Museum, Questicon and the National Gallery, and are also taking a drive tour of the Governor General's residence Yarralumla, and the Lodge - residence of the Prime Minister. …
