Thurston Takes Second Chance to Win GF Thriller; Cowboys Beat Broncos in Classic All-Queensland NRL Decider

JOHNATHAN Thurston seized the match-winner moment at the second attempt as he kicked a golden point extra-time field goal to capture the Cowboys' first NRL premiership.

The former St Mary's College student struck a sideline conversion after the full-time siren only for it to hit the post before he slotted a field goal in golden point to send North Queensland into raptures.

It was a shattering result for Broncos halfback Ben Hunt who dropped the kick-off to start extra-time to give the Cowboys great field position.

The Broncos took an early lead with a penalty goal to Corey Parker in the sixth minute before winger Corey Oates ran away for a long-range try just one minute later, with a Parker conversion establishing an 8-0 lead.

North Queensland hit straight back with a try to centre Justin O'Neill after hooker Jake Granville found a gap off the scrum.

Granville was the creator again as he put prop James Tamou over for a try in the 25th minute before Johnathan Thurston landed his second conversion to see the Cowboys take a 12-8 lead. …
