Prison for Youth Worker; Child Porn; Yulee Man, 22, Had Volunteered with Area Churches and Nonprofits

Article excerpt

A 22-year-old baby-sitter from Yulee linked with some youth organizations and churches was sentenced Thursday to 13 years and four months in federal prison for transporting child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Nicholas Mitko Clark pleaded guilty Jan. 13. Prior to his arrest, Clark worked with children at the Yulee YMCA, a Boys & Girls Club and churches in Jacksonville and Fernandina Beach, although officials of those agencies and churches said there was no evidence the charges had anything to do with children under his care. He also baby-sat and listed his services on sittercity.com.

According to court documents, Clark used an instant-messaging service in April 2013 to chat with someone in Canada and exchanged child pornography. He also asked that person to send him more child porn, saying he likes children 8 to 13, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

"This case is especially egregious, as this pedophile actively sought to work with children, in places they should feel safe and secure," said Susan L. McCormick, the special agent in charge.

Investigators found more images of child pornography when they got Clark's cellphone, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

Anthony Jevon Mincey was convicted of second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon, the State Attorney's Office said.

Devaughn Durham, 21, was at Whitner and McConihe streets in March 2009 when he was shot in the leg and later died at a hospital, police said.

The investigation revealed Mincey used an assault rifle after a meeting between Durham and another on the street corner, according to the State Attorney's Office.

Mincey is a five-time felon and faces the mandatory life sentence as a prison release reoffender and habitual violent felony offender, according to the State Attorney's Office.
