FOUR sides progressed in the Northumberland FA Minor Cup on a very successful weekend for the league.

Will Thompson hit four as Whitley Bay Under-21s accounted for Gosforth Bohemians 7-2. Ronan Atwood, Lewis Bothe and Jacob Browell were also on target for Bay, Boh's replies from Isac Mitchell and Liam Murphy.

In another all-Corinthians tie, Division One leaders Philosophers United beat Newcastle City 4-2 thanks to strikes from Callum Williams, Sean McCoy, Jordan Wright and Darren Drew.

Blyth entertained North Northumberland League side Springhill Berwick and triumphed 3-1 while North Shields Town beat Wooler 3-2. However, Tyne and Wear Metro went out, suffering a 5-2 reverse at home to North Shields Community Christians.

In the only Division One game, Rutherford returned to winning ways at Dynamo Fenham - but not without a scare.

Allan Summers, Graeme Troughton and Peter Williams (2) put the visitors 4-0 in front but a late charge by the home side made life uncomfortable with late goals from Cliff Lyall, Chris Thirlwell and ex-Ford player Liam Morrissey. …
