St James' Crowd Is in for a Real Treat

NEW Zealand centre Conrad Smith says the St James' Park crowd are in for a pre-match treat when the All Blacks' haka meets Tonga's sipi-tau.

The 8pm kick-off in tomorrow's Rugby World Cup clash will be preceded by both teams performing their traditional pre-match rituals - potentially headto-head at exactly the same time.

Smith, who wins his 91st All Black cap in the Newcastle encounter, said: "It definitely gives it an extra edge.

"I don't think I've played against Tonga before so that will be something a bit different, facing the sipi-tau.

"I don't tend to focus too much on what the opposition are doing but it will be a great way to start the game.

"The crowds always like it and hopefully the game is as good as the pre-match entertainment."

Smith yet again forms a world-class centre pairing with Ma'a Nonu, who celebrates his 100th cap. …
