STEPPING up to the challenge of live theatre has taken on a whole new meaning for actors on Teesside.

And audiences at Middlesbrough Theatre are in for as toe-tapping treat when their latest production takes to the stage. For the Middlesbrough Little Theatre group are staging the Richard Harris play Stepping Out from Wednesday - a warm, funny tale of the lives and loves of a group of wannabe tap dancers. It will be MLT's last production for 2015 and follows a string of successful shows this year.

Not only have the cast of Stepping Out had to learn their lines, they've also had to contend with learning tap steps and dance routines too.

"Stepping Out, a warm and funny play, enjoyed a huge West End run and won the Evening Standard Comedy Award. In 1990, it was made into a film with Liza Minnelli and Julie Walters," said director and former professional dancer Maureen Payne.

"Learning lines of a play is difficult enough for experienced and not so experienced actors, but throw in tap steps and dance routines results in a somewhat large challenge. …
