Village 'Fed Up' of Takeaway Shops

BUSINESSES and residents are opposing another takeaway in Linthorpe village.

A planning application to change the use of the premises at 408 Linthorpe Road from a retail unit to a takeaway was submitted to Middlesbrough Council on September 7. Rachel Terry, who runs RB's Hair, Beauty and Nail Spa, a couple of doors down from the empty unit, said: "We don't really need another takeaway. We've got enough hairdressers and beauty and food places.

"We don't need the extra rubbish in the area that it would bring.

"There is a pizza place, a chicken takeaway, an Indian and three cafes right on our doorstep."

Brian Waite, 53, from Acklam, said a petition from businesses and residents has been given to Middlesbrough Council.

His ex-wife Rattana Waite owns Sabai Thai Massage above the empty unit and his 19-year-old daughter Jenny works there. "There are about eight takeaways between Albert Park and the end of the village shops," said Brian, who used to run Ning's Siam Thai takeaway with Rattana before it closed three years ago. …
