TWO former Far North Coast cricketers have played major roles in securing Queensland's first Under-17 national championship in20 years.

Cudgen's Max Bryant and the Casino Cavaliers' Jacob Wood excelled throughout the carnival.

Bryant scored 278 runs at an average of 34.75 with the amazing strike rate of 117.3.

He hit 29 fours and 13 sixes with a highest score of 141 from 93 balls against a Cricket Australia XI.

Wood, an off-spinner, topped the bowling averages with seven wickets at 17.57 and a strike rate at 26.29 with his best bowling being 4-21 from 10 overs against NSW Country.

Bryant was subsequently named in a Cricket Australia Under-17 team to play in the Under-19 national championships in Adelaide next month.

Bryant plays for the Gold Coast Dolphins in Brisbane grade cricket and Wood will make his second grade debut for Toombul in Brisbane tomorrow after playing for the Cavaliers against Tintenbar-East Ballina in the Far North Coast LJ Hooker League today. …
