Visitors Have a Berry Good Time at Farm

A COMBINATION of a day out on a farm, plus strawberries and a range of Gympie Gold Regional Produce is a winning formula.

More than 500 people attended the recent Cooloola Berries open day on Jason and Kim Lewis' Wolvi property.

Operated as a pick your own and educational enterprise, the sight of more than 50 people at a time proved demand remains for this type of farm in the region.

Mrs Lewis said they realised there had to be a better way to farm when at another location they sent away a consignment and got little in return.

"Jason comes from a strawberry growing family," she said.

"We wanted to continue with that but to give people an idea of what lies behind the production."

As well as the strawberry focus at the open day, other Gympie regional producers were invited to have stalls to showcase their wares.

Mrs Lewis said they sold at the local markets and through retailers on the Sunshine Coast, Gympie and Maryborough.

"The markets provide good publicity for the PYO operation," she said. …
